Not a happy camper

I recently reinstalled Diablo 2 and have started playing for the first time on patch 10. To my suprise, when I get the cube I'm having trouble making potions. Since I play a barbarian, you can bet that is alarming. So I go and search the web, and find out that you now need gems to make potions. Gee, thank you Blizzard for messing up the game.
So now I am at a crossroads, my barbarian needs better potions to keep moving on, but the better potions are only going to come with tons of time killed running through the early acts looking for gem pieces to build the potions. Makes a guy seriously consider cheating.
